Our Story

The BrightTarget concept started back in the Summer of 2012, when the founders Glen Westlake, Mark Sheldon and Simon Grey first set out on this exciting journey. At the time Glen was running a leading data consultancy and Mark was leading the digital team at one of the UK’s big-six utility companies. Back then, Amazon’s AWS (cloud platform) revenue was a little over £1bn, digital transformations were in full flow and mobile was fast catching desktop. So the cloud and “big data” revolution was just beginning. Artificial Intelligence (AI) had been around for several years (used by internet giants like Google), but it was only just emerging in the mainstream market.

The founders recognised the opportunity to change the way businesses attempted to gain insight from their data (often very poorly and at great expense). There was simply too much data for humans to understand, explore and visualise – and machine learning held the answer.

The mission from day one, was to use machine learning to make sense of this data and provide actionable insights directly to business users.

The platform and product went through various iterations, working with various big-name brands, before BrightTarget was officially launched in 2014. Today AWS revenues have increased 10x, Salesforce are the dominant CRM provider, mobile usage has overtaken desktop and the internet of things is now the talk of the town; so most businesses have more data than they know what to do with.

  • GLEN WESTLAKE
    GLEN WESTLAKE CEO & CO-FOUNDER

    Ex-founder and CEO of IT Performs Ltd, a leading UK BI consultancy. Glen has more than 20 years’ experience of data-driven performance improvement. His entrepreneurial spirit has continually challenged the use of technology and has been fundamental to the innovation behind BrightTarget. He has a Master’s Degree in Engineering.

  • MARK SHELDON
    MARK SHELDON CTO & CO-FOUNDER

    Technology Strategist with over 12 years commercial experience in IT, specialising in Web, Mobile, Enterprise Architecture and Big Data Tech. Former Head of Digital Development at npower, responsible for technical architecture, strategy and a large technical team. Mark holds a 1st class degree in Computer Science.

  • Andy Pryke
    Andy Pryke Chief Data Scientist

    Andy is an expert in data mining, data visualisation and applied statistics, working in this area since 1994. He has delivered projects in commercial and academic environments and hold a Ph.D in “Data Mining using Interactive Visualisation and Symbolic Generic Algorithms”. Andy now leads the Data Science team at BrightTarget.

  • Ian Cadman
    Ian Cadman Head of Engineering

    Software engineering and technical architecture specialist with many years experience in development of enterprise-level software solutions for major blue-chip clients in Financial, Marketing/CRM and Utilities sectors. Ian was a Senior Software Engineer at Google’s DoubleClick. Ian now leads the architecture, development and support teams at BrightTarget.

  • Olivier Novasque
    Olivier Novasque Board Member (Group CEO)

    After graduating from Toulouse Business School, Olivier Novasque founded Sidetrade in 2000, despite the fact that the dot.com bubble had only recently burst. He had a vision for an innovative SaaS-based financial services solution in a market. Sidetrade made this vision a reality and, under his leadership, the company has grown and continues to prosper with Olivier managing Group strategy and operations.

  • Philippe Gangneux
    Philippe Gangneux Board Member (Group CFO)

    Philippe Gangneux is a graduate of the ISG business school in France and also holds a Master’s degree in mergers and acquisitions. Over the past 20 years, he has held a variety of financial management positions within several international, high-growth IT companies. As Group CFO, he is responsible for global finance and administration operations to support Sidetrade growth and development.
